Smoked Rosemary Boulevardier
The Boulevardier is simply another variation on the Negroni (there are MANY… There’s actually an entire book dedicated to Negroni variations!). Unlike the classic Negroni and using gin, the Boulevardier uses bourbon.
Paul Clark of Serious Eats says it best: “the bittersweet interplay between Campari and vermouth remains, but the whiskey changes the storyline. Where the Negroni is crisp and lean, the Boulevardier is rich and intriguing. There's a small difference in the preparation, but the result is absolutely stunning.”
Ingredients:
1 oz sweet vermouth
1 oz campari
1½ oz bourbon
Garnish: rosemary sprigs, dehydrated orange wheel
Directions:
Light a sprig of rosemary sprig with a wooden match (or kitchen blow torch) until smoking — carefully place on a fireproof surface, like a ceramic coaster or even a cutting board. Flip a chilled rocks glass upside down on top of the smoldering rosemary to capture the smoke.
In a separate cocktail mixing glass, add sweet vermouth, Campari, and bourbon. Add ice and stir for approximately thirty seconds (dilution is key to perfecting this cocktail!). Strain into the smoked rocks glass over a large ice cube. Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig and dehydrated orange slice.
