Bacon Maple Old Fashioned

WATCH ME MAKE IT HERE!

I’ve been wanting to fat-wash bourbon for years now, and I can’t figure out why I’ve never done it after finding out how easy it is 😅

To fat-wash your liquor, all you need is really 2 ingredients: the fat and the liquor! In this case, I’m using bacon and bourbon (a natural pair) — I fried up some bacon, let the fat cool a bit, and poured the fat (about 1-2 tbsp) in a mason jar and topped it off with the bourbon. Let it sit in the freezer for 24-36 hours and strain it through layered cheese cloth (or a coffee filter!).

Ingredients:

  • 4 dashes orange bitters

  • ¾ oz maple syrup

  • 2½ oz bacon washed bourbon

  • orange peel

  • garnish: candied bacon (recipe below)

Directions:

Add all ingredients into a cocktail mixing glass (including orange peel — make sure to express the oils!). Add ice and stir for approximately thirty seconds. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a single piece of candied bacon.

CANDIED BACON

Ingredients:

  • thick-cut bacon

  • brown sugar

Directions:

Coat bacon with a good amount of brown sugar so they’re evenly coated. Press the sugar into the bacon as best as you can! Lay them out on a rack + baking sheet and cook at 375°F for 20-25 minutes. Transfer to parchment paper to cool.
