Gingerbread Old Fashioned

If you know me, you know I have to hit you with a seasonal old fashioned. This year, it’s the Gingerbread OF! I think I’ve mastered the gingerbread syrup, so feel free to use this on everything (you’ll thank me later).

Ingredients:

  • ½ oz gingerbread syrup

  • 4 dashes chocolate bitters

  • 2½ oz bourbon

  • garnish: cinnamon sugar + gingerbread cookie

Directions:

  1. Dip the rim of a rocks glass into gingerbread syrup followed by cinnamon sugar to coat, set aside.

  2. In a cocktail mixing glass, combine syrup, bitters, and bourbon.

  3. Add ice and stir until sugar is dissolved (about thirty seconds).

  4. Pour contents into rimmed glass over a large ice cube.

  5. Garnish with a gingerbread cookie.

GINGERBREAD SYRUP

Ingredients:

  • ¾ cup light brown sugar

  • ¾ cup water

  • 2 tbsp molasses

  • 1½ tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

Combine ingredients nto a medium sauce pan and bring to a simmer. Once sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and let the flavors steep while the syrup cools completely (about 30 minutes to an hour). Once cooled, transfer syrup into an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for about two to three weeks.
