Blood Orange Shrub

Mocktail Monday comin’ in hot with a spiced blood orange shrub! Making shrubs are soooo freaking easy and it really takes a elevates a regular shmegular mocktail — and you can even make it a cocktail by adding an ounce or two of your favorite spirit 😉

This recipe is slightly tweaked from Bon Appetit!

Ingredients:

  • 4 blood oranges (zest + juice)

  • 1½” knob of ginger (peeled + chopped)

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 6 cloves

  • ½ cup cane sugar

  • 1½ cup water

  • ¼ cup vinegar of choice

Directions:

  1. To prep, peel the zest of the blood oranges (be sure to remove as much pith as possible), and peel and roughly chop the ginger. Add the zest and ginger to a medium sauce pan, along with sugar, water, cinnamon stick, and cloves.

  2. Set the mixture to medium heat and allow it to reduce by half. While your syrup is reducing, juice the blood oranges through a fine-mesh sieve.

  3. Let the syrup cool completely and strain out the solids directly into the blood orange juice. Stir in the ¼ cup of vinegar.

  4. To build your mocktail, add 1 ½ oz of the shrub to a tall glass with ice. Top with sparkling water. Garnish how you prefer!
