Apple Cider

PSA this is the only apple cider recipe you’ll ever need and you can use it in sooo many cocktails (and mocktails)!

Ingredients:

  • 8-10 apples of choice, quartered (I used tart & crisp apples!)

  • ½ orange

  • ½ cup brown sugar (you can sweeten it more later with maple syrup or something if you want it to be sweeter!)

  • 6 whole all spice berries

  • 8 whole cloves

  • 1 whole star anise

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 whole nutmeg

  • 6 cardamom pods

  • 8-10 cups of water (1 cup for every apple you use)

Directions:

  1. Wash, de-core, and quarter your apples and add them to a large pot or dutch oven along with the quartered orange.

  2. Add sugar, spices, and water — give it a quick stir.

  3. Let it hang out on low heat for about four hours and then give them a quick mash — doesn’t have to be perfect!

  4. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve.

  5. Strain, again, through cheesecloth (mine is reusable, you can also use a damp coffee filter) over the fine-mesh sieve. Don’t skip this step, especially if you want a really filtered, velvety end result!

Enjoy hot or cold, but allow the cider to cool completely before storing it in the refrigerator in an air-tight jar. It will last up to two weeks! I like to warm mine up and add a little bourbon 😉
