Blackberry Thyme Margarita

Margarita’s are one of my favorite cocktails to mix up, especially experimenting with different fruits and herbal flavors. This blackberry and thyme margarita is the perfect, tangy pick me up for a cold, winter evening.

Ingredients:

  • 2 blackberries, plus more for garnish

  • ¾ oz thyme syrup

  • 1 oz lime juice

  • ¾ oz cointreau

  • 2 oz tequila

  • garnish: 2 blackberries, thyme sprig

Directions:

Combine blackberries and thyme syrup into a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add lime juice, cointreau, tequila, ice, and shake vigorously for approximately thirty seconds, until chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with blackberries and a thyme sprig.

THYME SYRUP

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup cane sugar

  • ½ cup water

  • 5-6 thyme sprigs

Directions:

Combine sugar, water, and thyme sprigs into a medium sauce pan and bring to a simmer. Once sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and let the flavors steep while the syrup cools completely (about 30 minutes to an hour). Once cooled, strain out the solids (thyme sprigs) and transfer syrup into an airtight container.  Store in the refrigerator for about two to three weeks.
