Sour Cherry... Bourbon Sour

Making a shrub in the summertime is a no-brainer — there are so many lovely fruits in season that are just beginning to be put into a cocktail! This is one way you can use a sour-cherry shrub into a strong and pungent bourbon sour.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz cherry shrub (recipe below)

  • 1 oz lemon juice

  • 2 oz bourbon

  • 1 egg white

  • garnish: edible flower

Directions:

Combine ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Shake without ice. Add ice and shake vigorously for approximately thirty seconds, until chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with an edible flower.

SOUR CHERRY SHRUB

You can enjoy a fruit shrub in so many different ways! It’s sweet and tangy and ohhh so versatile — these cherries looked perfect for it, but you can really use any fruit. Here’s a quick video tutorial!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fruit of choice

  • 1 cup sugar

  • ¾ cup water

  • ¾ cup vinegar of choice (I used champagne vinegar)

Directions:

Prepare fruit as necessary (wash, remove pits or stems, chop into smaller pieces) and combine sugar, water, and fruit into a sauce pot. Bring to a boil, and reduce to a simmer for approximately 10 minutes. Let cool completely, strain out the solids, and stir in vinegar. You can use the leftover cherries to add to your cocktails, desserts, etc.!

I also use it in this Sour Cherry Gin Spritzer!
