Gin Basil Smash

What makes a smash, a smash? I like to think of a smash-style cocktail as the less fussy, more forgiving variation of a julep. It’s pretty open-ended and variable, as long as you include herbs, fruit, sugar, and some sort of base spirit.

SILKS Irish dry gin will play really nicely with this classic style cocktail, as it has existing aromas of citrus, and flavors of earthy orris root, which is a lovely complement to the fresh basil. I absolutely love that this gin is founded by a mother-daughter duo.

Ingredients:

  • ½ lime, cut into thirds

  • 8-10 basil leaves + garnish

  • ½ oz simple syrup

  • 2½ oz gin

Directions:

In a cocktail shaker, combine limes, basil leaves, and simple syrup. Gently muddle (or smash 😏). Add gin, along with ice, and shake for approximately thirty seconds. Strain into rocks glass and garnish with fresh basil.
