Frozen Irish Coffee

This Frozen Irish Coffee is what dreams are made of — and I’ll be drinking this year round, but it hits different in the 90 degree heat.

I recently visited New Orleans and this was one of the highly recommended cocktails to have when visiting, and as soon as I had it, I knew I had to recreate it! I have no idea how they created the original recipe, but this came out pretty identical in flavor and consistency. So so so delicious!

Ingredients:

  • 4 coffee cubes (recipe below)

  • approximately ¾-1 cup of vanilla ice cream

  • 4 oz Irish whiskey

  • 2 oz coffee liqueur

  • 2 oz milk of choice (I used oat!)

  • ¾ oz simple syrup

  • 1 cup ice

  • garnish: coffee grounds + coffee beans

Directions:

  1. To make the coffee cubes (I used this silicone mold), I brewed drip coffee at 1½x the usual strength. Freeze at least 4 hours ahead of time or overnight.
For example, for 8 cups of water, I typically use 8 scoops of coffee (1 scoop per cup — a traditional coffee scoop is 2 tablespoons). For this, I used 12 scoops of coffee for 8 cups of water to ensure it was super strong.

  2. Combine coffee cubes, ice cream, whiskey, coffee liqueur, milk, simple syrup, and ice to a blender and blend until smooth.

  3. Pour into desired glass and garnish with coffee grounds and coffee beans.
